Help the USW strike against Goodyear

From the USW Rapid Response

While Goodyear is making large profits, it has forced our members out on a strike which is now entering its third month. The strike centers on two issues that are of vital importance to us all: Outsourcing and Healthcare.

Scholarships

The Greater Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Council is proud to announce changes in it's scholarship program.Beginning in 2007, it will be administered by a committee of UMass Dartmouth and council staff. We will still be offering three $1000 scholarships to qualified high school seniors in our jurisdiction. Download the Criteria and Application forms for more detail.

Rapid Response

Rapid Response provides on-site, early intervention
out-placement services to workers who will be affected by layoff.
Using a combination of counseling
sessions and group workshops, Rapid Response will
help each worker develop a re-employment strategy
tailored to his/her individual needs. Rapid Response
can also help companies fill job openings by helping
locate qualified employees.

The Union Difference
The Union DifferenceAmerica's 16.2 million union members represent a cross section of people -- women and men of all ages, races and ethnic groups. They work in hospitals and nursing homes, auto assembly plants and on construction sites, trains, buses and airplanes. They are security guards, engineers, office workers, musicians, electricians, postal workers, janitors and more.

About the CLC

We would like to welcome you to the Greater Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Council Web site.

COPE

Sweatshop Picket Photo.

Realizing the influence organized labor has on political elections and the potential working people have to use that same momentum in the state legislative arena, the Mass AFL-CIO has created a grassroots legislative program called "Labor to Neighbor."

Economic Development

Plan for Sustainable Economic Development in
SE Massachusetts

 Putting the Needs of People
and the Environment First.

Economic development policies and strategies are
grounded in subsidies, tax breaks, and other financial
and infrastructure incentives for corporations to
improve their bottom line. Conversely, little if any
attention is paid to ensure that these same
corporations provide meaningful economic and social
returns for these public / tax payer based financial
incentives and outright gifts.

Our economic development priorities are backwards.
One companies quest for profit should not eclipse the
well being or needs of our community.
