Crisis in Teen Jobs for Summer 2010
Join the Campaign to Get the Funding so we have jobs this summer
The summer of 2010 could be the worst summer for teens getting jobs in memory. Three major cuts will be implemented unless we can get the state and federal government to change this in the coming months. BUT, a coalition of youth and community organizations is organizing to change this and asks you to join with them.
1. State Teen Job Cuts
The state will be cutting its two teen jobs program, called YouthWorks and School to Career Connecting Activities, by 50%.
2. Federal Stimulus funded teen jobs we had last summer are almost all gone. Congress is considering possibly passing some money again, but
that’s a maybe.
3. Because of the severe recession, teens have less chances in getting hired for private sector jobs than in previous years.
