Video: Ford's most advanced assembly plant operates in rural Brazil
What is not said in the video is that Brazilian workers earn far less than their U.S. counterparts. An american worker cannot live in Detroit on Brazilian pay. Thats why Ford is there. All of the foreign plants built in the U.S. are in Southern Right to Work states for a reason (less pay, lower standard of living) The Brazilian government subsidizes industry therefore giving it an unfair advantage. They and other international steel companies almost buried the american steel industry in the 1990's this way. Brazil also has national health insurance which is another great advantage for their industry that American industry does not enjoy. In other countries responsibility for citizens health and retirees well being have been born by government. Here it has been taken on by business and labor. Hence the added legacy costs. And the last UAW contract retiree health care has been assumed BY THE UNION. Unions do not negotiate to put themselves out of business. They do not tell companies how to run their business. Everything in a union contract WAS AGREED TO BY THE COMPANY. Editor |
