All day event By Jake Berry November 17, 2008 6:00 AM For some Cape Codders, watching history on television just won't do this time. Barack Obama supporters are planning a trip to Washington, D.C., in January to watch as Obama is sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. Trip planners have reserved 90 train tickets from Providence to Washington for the Jan. 20 ceremony. Reservations must be made by today. Those interested may reserve a spot by e-mailing trip organizer John Bangert at jjbangert@gmail.com or by calling him at 508-432-0545. "I remember being 12 years old and watching a young president from Massachusetts be sworn in" on television, said Bangert, a Harwich Democrat, referring to John F. Kennedy. "I didn't know anything about him, but I just knew I was watching history. ... This time I had to be there." The Amtrak train, scheduled to leave Providence Sunday night, Jan. 18, will arrive in Washington Monday morning. Bangert has made sleeping arrangements for two nights at a local community center, with plans to return to Providence Wednesday evening, Jan. 21. Buses will be available to transport participants between Cape Cod and Providence. For more information, see capecoddersforbarackobama.blogspot.com.
