Labor in the Schools - 2008 - Durfee High School

 

This year's Labor In The Schools has been awarded to Durfee High School in Fall River.

Working with Sharron Machamer, Fall River Educators Association, and Jose Soler, Director of the Arnold Dubin Labor Education Center at UMass Dartmouth, President Rodrigues made the presentation of 11 books and 2 videos.


The donation is part of the labor council's "Labor in the Schools" program designed to introduce students to the history and struggles of organized labor in a positive way. Each year a school selected from the Labor Council's district which extends from the Rhode Island border to the tip of Cape Cod. Books and videos valued up to $250.00 are selected for the appropiate ages. Previous winners include Greater New Bedford Voke-Tech, Dartmouth Elementary School, and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.  Sharron Machamer and Cynthia Rodrigues

About 60 students heard a presentation by Jose Soler about labor unions and how they have helped working people.
