Coalition for Social Justice Coalition Against Poverty Action Alert "Keep Kids in School" Campaign Kick-Off Event Thursday, May 1, 6 - 8:30 p.m., Buttonwood Senior Center, New Bedford (Buttonwood Park at the pond) Be part of a movement to address negative and counter-productive disciplinary practices that are contributing to the high drop out rate in New Bedford's schools Support: Increased Student Academic SUCCESS Professional Development for School Personnel Enforcement of Individual Education Plans for Special Education Students Improved classroom management practices Helping students with behavioral problems with conflict resolution education and counseling Programs to increase parental involvement Stop: Expulsions/transfers to West Side Jr./Sr. High for students who pose no threat Unproductive out-of-school suspensions for minor infractions Excessive referrals into the criminal justice system This Educational Forum will include testimony by students and parents and expert testimony on disciplinary issues.
