We will be organize speakers to advocate for our 2008 Campaign for Working Families.  This is a multi-issue campaign to address the central social and economic issues facing struggling, low- and moderate income families and individuals.  We are working in coalition with others around the state to bring about progressive state legislation on each of these issues.

Our Working Families Issues for 2008:

Taxes & public spending.  Funding badly needed public services by closing corporate tax loopholes.

CORI Reform. Reducing job and housing discrimination against individuals with CORI reports.

Health care.  Protect and strengthen the new subsidized health care plans for low- and moderate-income families and individuals by keeping plans affordable, provide dental coverage for people just above poverty level, allow employees to get subsidized health care if they canâ€TMt afford their employers insurance, and fully funding health care reform in this years budget,

Housing.  Increasing funding for rental subsidies so more people can get vouchers to help pay their rent.

Welfare.  Restoring eligibility for cash benefits and food stamps for legal immigrants (including refugees), which was taken away Mitt Romney in 2002.

EducationReform MCAS to allow alternative ways in addition to the MCAS test to demonstrate proficiency and establish eligibility for graduation.  so that itâ€TMs not the only requirement to graduate high school

Patient Safety.  Establishing regulations that require hospitals to provide safe levels of staffing.

Environmental Protection.  Passing a law to remove the 10 most toxic chemicals from the environment.

Paid Sick Days.  Requiring employers to provide 7 paid sick days to their employees

Fuel Assistance.  Increasing funding so families receiving fuel assistance can get more help with their heating bills.
