Realizing the influence organized labor has on political elections and the potential working people have to use that same momentum in the state legislative arena, the Mass AFL-CIO has created a grassroots legislative program called "Labor to Neighbor."

The program capitalizes on the collective strength and voices of the state AFL-CIO's working men and women to influence action at the Statehouse. By establishing a network of labor activists in the home district of every state representative and senator, the labor movement is able to lobby our elected leaders in a much more effective and personal way.

For years, the political arm of the state AFL-CIO has used a grassroots approach to win campaigns while legislative issues have been limited to the corridors of the Statehouse. By mobilizing labor union members in their home cities and towns, the state AFL-CIO instantaneously expands its network of lobbyists from a handful to thousands.

By using human capital-as we successfully do on the campaign trail-we create new ties within our communities that run from neighbor to neighbor and from our own house to the Statehouse.

If you would like to be a Labor to Neighbor committee member, please contact the council at gsmlaborcouncil@verizon.net or call 508-992-5475.
